Over the last 15 years Jon Buller has contributed an eclectic and growing catalogue of music to the artistic landscape of Canada. In late 2009 he added his 10th CD release LIGHT UP THE SKY to that list. His recording career has generated sales of over 40,000 units, and received critical acclaim including a Juno nomination for his CD SINNER & THE SAINT, and 2 Covenant Awards, for Praise and Worship Song of the Year (Lord of Every Thing - 2006) and Traditional Album of the Year (the Hymn Project - 2008).

Buller, also a worship pastor at Vernon Alliance church in BC, teamed up with award winning veteran producer Roy Salmond to work on LIGHT UP THE SKY, and the result is a recording that is the perfect synergy of Buller’s strengths. Modern worship music, classic rock grooves and great songs. Canadian songwriting treasure Carolyn Arends, and Starfield lead singer Tim Neufeld also make guest appearances on the recording.

“I wrote the first song THERE’S A LIFE after a 2 year writing dry spell, as an exercise to start working my writing muscles again… it’s a song about enduring hope in the face of life’s challenges. Ironically, having the song turn out gave me hope and then birthed optimism in me that I might still have something creative to offer.”

The inspiration continued with 5 more original songs, 2 of which were co-writing experiences; one with guitar sensation Jacob Moon, and the other with singer-songwriter extraordinaire Bob Bennett. Buller also chose 4 more songs that fit him perfectly one by worship writer Tim Hughes and another by blues prodigy Johnny Lang and one each from Winnipeg friends Rob Mitchell and Gord Johnson.

“You don’t have to have written a song to sing it with passion and conviction. You need only to really believe in the song to do that, in much the same way you need to believe in your own original writing. I was able to make these songs, written by people that I respect and admire, ‘my own’ and that was an honour and a privilege.”

Fans and critics alike will be thankful for this new offering from Jon Buller, which flows with a consistency and musical clarity that comes from artistic growth and maturity. Even so, the youthful energy of Buller’s music seems to only increase with each year of his experience. Last year Buller toured across Canada with Juno winner Steve Bell, and he will continue to venture out on the road on his own to support the release of LIGHT UP THE SKY.
